Bright Green Enterprise

Enterprise in Africa

The TIA Initiative, otherwise known as This is Africa, is our international programme for Bright Green Enterprise. The initiative offers the service of our enterprise programmes to primary and secondary schools in East Africa whose learning environments differ greatly from ours in the UK, and whose opportunities for further education are limited.

The platform for our work in developing regions is underpinned by our passion and commitment to recognising the opportunities that enterprise education brings to growing economic sustainability, and how the reduction of poverty is intrinsically linked to the development of education, business and trade. Although the learning environments we operate in are fundamentally different from those of the UK, commonalities lie with each child’s ability to think creatively, logically and conceptualise the future in which they wish to live.

“The difficulty lies not so much in developing new ideas, as in escaping from old ones”.

  - John Maynard Keynes, British Economist.

Our work to date has led us to witness a high level of self-motivated entrepreneurial spirit amongst young people in developing environments. With the majority of their populations however, living on a hand-to-mouth income, there is increasing difficulty in small businesses expanding beyond their immediate environment, thus restricting the potential growth and network for further development.

Our programmes abroad have been designed by a group of individuals with wide spread expertise in import and export trade markets, economy, conservation and biodiversity and the international education sector. Three key thematic aims underpin our work.

  • Encouraging the future relationship between business and ethical practice for long-term economic and environmental sustainability; addressing challenges such as climate change, the environment and social impacts of business and behaviour.
  • Enhancing students’ understanding of national and international business models that will engage them towards pursuing their own interests and applying their skills.
  • Empower women economically and address diversity related issues that will build towards a stronger economic infrastructure.

We carry out all the work for the TIA Initiative voluntarily. In order to live by the values of fair trade, we always buy our resources in the field. Every pen, pencil, paper or book is bought within the country we practice.
